Prelude to a new portal

This science fiction painting depicts a nymph-like figure playing a wind instrument inside a swirling compartment, with a hovering spiral staircase leading upwards, a portal leading outwards into the great expanse and a moon in the foreground. The sound is a fleeting moment in time, rather than a static soundscape.
This is where the nymph-like figure lives. Their job is to tiptoe down the steps daily to see if there is a new portal to the great expanse. Once it has opened, they must play their melody to inform the others of the news. They sit on the lowest step of the floating stairway, playing a prelude on their wind instrument, on the occasion of a new portal opening up. The border of the portal rotates in a mesmerising way. The instrument resembles what is known on earth as a clarinet - in this world it’s called a flugulon.
Before the opening of the portal, the figure was enclosed in a comfortable but lonely two-storey pod with a soft, cloud-like floor, for their own safety, due to the ongoing inter-planetary turmoil. The opening of the portal signifies a new era of peace. After the music is vented out into space, the nymph ascends the staircase.
This takes place in a fantasy planet, where space suits follow the form of the human body, rather than encapsulate the body in a formless mass of solid layers. There are special helmets that make it possible to play an instrument and the gloves allow for agile dexterity.
I composed, performed, recorded and edited the accompanying audio. I feel that the expansive sound of the clarinet suits the vastness of the cosmos. The musical instrument in the picture acts as the so-called “sound box”.
