A sciatic nerve block is a nerve block that uses local anesthetic to achieve analgesia in the leg. It is indicated in surgeries involving the leg, ankle and foot. It can be combined with the femoral or lumbar plexus block to provide analgesia to the entire lower extremity.

The benefits include decreased pain, reduced opioid requirements and opioid-related adverse effects. Aim is to target the sciatic nerve providing analgesia to the common peroneal and tibial nerves.
