Science education has the potential to play a powerful role in adapting and responding to the climate emergency. For example, science education can help people anticipate and respond to the impacts of climate change, and science education plays a key role in meeting UN sustainable development goal 13 (Climate Action) and the UK target of net zero by 2050. Drawing on our work with teachers and youth from across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, we share their vision for education for environmental sustainability. We suggest how the science education community can work together with young people to meet current challenges identified by teachers and youth and ensure that future opportunities are inclusive for all pupils and teachers. We will reflect together on the vital role that science teachers hold in the context of the climate emergency and consider how to empower each other and the young people we teach.
