RTE’s introduction of ‘Home School Hub’ a teaching initiative for primary school across the country but IDS is concerned for Deaf Children all over Ireland as a result of #COVID19 are losing out on their education. The Home School Hub is not an accessible source for them as though subtitles provided. Deaf children learn best through Irish Sign Language. Deaf Teachers and SNAs now bear the responsibility of translating these shows and distributing the information among these students which delays Deaf students in getting information that their hearing peers can access easily. So I emailed them last week to ask them to provide an ISL Interpreter on screen for these programmes. This will benefit Deaf children and ensure that every child in Ireland can access the Home School Hub. I will keep you posted if they reply back.
