This is my most recent and latest directorial work in which I recreated a notable scene from Bong Joon Ho's 2019 film, Parasite. This scene recreation happened the week after the Oscars awards in which Bong Joon Ho received four awards for his film. Exciting.

I wanted to learn how exactly Bong Joon Ho built up suspense in Parasite and I think we did a pretty fair job at emanating the film's tone, tempo and overall technique. In directing, I learned the strategies of lens choice when creating a build up of suspense, going from a 25mm lens to a 35mm to a 50mm lens--those three lenses, and the use of those lenses, was a huge lesson for me. Secondly, I learned how geographical layout played a role in setting tone and tempo of the scene. Also, the lighting of the hallway entrance played a key role in getting that feeling as if the actor had descended into a place that was much darker from where he came.

In editing, I learned many techniques in the cutting/weaving of the scenes together. The suspense had a lot to do with the timing/tempo of the cuts. Going from 10 seconds to 5 seconds to 3 seconds to 1.5 seconds--and then boom, payload. Build up and payload of suspense.

Directed and edited by me
Acting done by Imogen and I, thank you Imogen.

(I actually played as the dead body on the ground... it felt pretty meta doing that)
EDIT: Scenes of me laying on the ground were directed by Rob Tregenza, thank you, sir.

I am very proud of this and will go forward to use this technique in a short film titled "The Window". Due to release this month.
