Curator of Competitive Plastics Heather Galbraith, will led an online discussion with three leading thinkers in the areas of materiality, neuroscience and philosophy. Raewyn Martyn, Dr Raamy Majeed, Dahlia W Zaidel and Galbraith will discuss the intersections that exist across their respective research areas and wider ideas that relate to creative processes.

This discussion took place online via Zoom.

Raewyn Martyn is an artist and teacher living in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. She is a PhD candidate at Toi Rāuwharangi CoCA, Massey University, working to create biopolymer and biobased paint materials. Her writing focuses on 'biopolymer materialism', and understanding plastics as old materials.

Dr Raamy Majeed is a senior lecturer in philosophy at the University of Auckland. Prior to this he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge, as part of the project ‘New Directions in the Study of Mind’. His research lies at the intersection of philosophy of mind and cognitive science.

Dahlia W Zaidel conducts research at the University of California at Los Angeles on the brain’s underpinning of cognition and beauty in faces and art. Understanding art’s neural basis drives her recent research and writing into the evolutionary origins of art in human societies, combining findings from neurology, archaeology, and biology.

Heather Galbraith is a curator, writer and educator. Initially an artist, Galbraith undertook an MA in Curating at Goldsmiths’ College. Exhibitions Organiser at Camden Arts Centre, London for seven years, she had held senior roles at ST Paul St., AUT University, City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi, Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, and Whiti o Rehua School of Art, Massey University, where she is now Professor. Galbraith has a long association with New Zealand at the Venice Biennale, and was Managing Curator SCAPE Public Art, Ōtautahi (2016- 2018).
