We ask leading outside school hours care services how they create a meaningful program where all children feel a sense of belonging.
After watching the video, try these reflective questions, either individually or at your next staff meeting or PD session:
• How is children’s learning planned for and documented at the OSHC services shown? Please explain in the context of the planning cycle.
• How do programming elements in the video support Outcome 4 of the VEYLDF – Children are confident and involved learners? (Remember to think about how children resource their own learning through connecting with people, place, technologies and natural and processed materials.)
• How are children’s ideas and points of view heard, respected and reflected in what happens?
• How does the assessment for learning and development shown in the video support both frameworks’ understanding that families are children’s first and most influential teacher?
• What examples of critical reflection can you see? How is this documented and used?
• How does the school age care framework inform your own practice and support decision-making?
• What additional supports or learning experiences have you implemented at your service to nurture high expectations for every child’s learning and development?
