Mark: I'm Mark Dowling I've got what's known as systemic lupus and I've been working with VisAbility for the last 12 months now.

Keearny: My name's Keearny and I'm an Occupational Therapist with VisAbility. Working with Mark today, we're just figuring out ways to build that independence back to a level that he's used to. We're just going through the more high-tech assisted technology for people with vision impairment. We are focusing a lot around technology and we're trying to get that information out there.

Mark: My vision loss was sudden onset blindness and that happened over a period of about four hours on one Friday afternoon.

From my perspective, VisAbility's been fantastic. The level of attention to detail has been wonderful. People's listening ability to actually hear what's important to me and then being able to tailor things for me has been important.

Keearny: With OT's we're very holistic. Our goal is independence and safety but also person-centeredness.

Depending on the person's level of vision, we find that iphones are really helpful. They have inbuilt accessibility features. A lot of technology is coming out now and it can be isolating for people if they can't access it.

With Mark, he has just shown immense improvement in terms of taking things on and he's very proactive. I think the biggest thing is the approach that we take as OT's we don't just focus on a medical difficulty, we focus on the person as a whole so when people understand that and they get that sense of achievement when it's quite little, it just brings a smile to your face
