Hi I’m Jarrah Cohen, Co-Founder of NomadVR and we provide an easy to implement and manage virtual reality program specifically tailored to the aged care setting.
Over the past two years working on NomadVR, I have had the privilege of meeting hundreds of incredibly adventurous people. I’ve met biologists, army vets, expeditionists, the list goes on.
As people get older, their sense of adventure doesn’t go away, but their ability to be adventurous does. As they lose their independence, coming to terms with this can be very hard, they withdraw, stop socialising which leads to further depression, and for some an early death.
Virtual reality has been shown to have a variety of positive effects for aged care residents, including enhanced focus, cognition, memory, mobility, and overall health and wellness.
The biggest problem with more traditional activities in aged care like Bingo, word games or bus excursions is that they are inherently exclusive due to residents physical or cognitive abilities.
With NomadVR, they decide how interactive they want the experience to be. Making it more open to people who are otherwise left out of many activities.
Our biggest challenge right now is facing the assumption that older people have no interest in new technology like vr. But from that, I see our greatest opportunity for growth. We have recently finished a 3 month trial with Unitingcare Queensland which couldn’t have been a more positive experience. I see this as a great opportunity to prove that less traditional, technology based solutions can yield great results for the aged care sector.
The first version of our platform has been going very well, what we need now is the knowledge and capital to continue developing the platform and get greater market penetration, and we know Optus Future Makers will be the perfect network to do so.
