Ruth Bianco sees her interest in space as central to her art practice and her role as an educator. MICAS, incubated in a historical site with resilient and formidable military architecture, seeks through this reinterpretation to create a cultural space for the arts to seed and disseminate creativity across neighbourhoods, communities and borders. Bianco’s own work, with her installations and video and sound pieces, is preoccupied with concepts of ‘spatial choreography', ‘collage’, and ‘connecting geographies'. Her interests as ideas take on the same generosity of the social exchange she envisages for MICAS.
Led by art critic and curator Rajesh Punj, the MICAS in Conversation series forms part of MICAS's programming vision towards fostering new ideas and experiences promoting contemporary art.
MICAS is a Government of Malta infrastructural legacy project for the Culture and the Arts sector. MICAS will be realised through state funded restoration of historical fortifications and is an EU co-funded project that will deliver the MICAS internal galleries through the European Regional Development Fund in 2022.
