This is Mayor Paul Brodeur with a Covid-19 update.
A COVID-19 clinic for children 5-11 will be held tomorrow Saturday, November 20 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Galvin Middle School, 525 Main Street, Wakefield, MA. The clinic will be run by the Melrose and Wakefield Health Departments in the Main Lobby and Learning Commons, located by the main entrance to the school. Appointments are required. You can find the sign-up link at the city website at cityofmelrose.org
Getting a COVID-19 vaccine can help protect children ages 5 years and older from getting COVID-19. Vaccinating children can help protect family members, including siblings who are not eligible for vaccination and family members who may be at increased risk of getting very sick if they are infected. Vaccination can also help keep children from getting seriously sick even if they do get COVID-19. Vaccinating children ages 5 years and older can help keep them in school and help them safely participate in sports, playdates, and other group activities.
Help protect your whole family and slow the spread of COVID-19 in Melrose by getting yourself and your children ages 5 years and older vaccinated against COVID-19. If you have any concerns regarding whether the vaccine is a good choice for your family, please contact your family doctor.
The most recent vaccine data from DPH for the first time includes data about shots administered to kids aged 5 – 11. 38% of kids in the age group has received their first dose of two. This represents 876 out of 2,294 in that age group. We hope this number will rise significantly as a result of tomorrow’s clinic. Overall, 74% of our residents are fully vaccinated, and DPH does not provide data about the number of eligible people who have received boosters. You can get help finding vax locations including boosters by going to vaxfinder.mass.gov or calling 211.
And remember that tomorrow is Melrose Random Acts of Kindness Day. Take a chance on doing something kind. It’s another way to show that together, we can get through anything!
