An Aboriginal organisation in Central Australia has added to its list of space projects and will be commercially hosting a GEOTracker station for a European aerospace company.
At the Centre for Appropriate Technology 10km South of Alice Springs multiple instruments will be encased in a three-metre tall clamshell observatory dome as the organisation will be operating ArianeGroup technology, tracking satellites using an optical telescope.
The Centre for Appropriate technology will develop the site, procure the dome, install the equipment and provide ongoing management services while ArianeGroup will supply observation equipment and perform operations remotely.
CEO of CfAT Peter Renehan says it is a fantastic opportunity and it shows that development with international impacts can happen in Central Australia.
