Yale Alumni Educators present a discussion with Joe English, '17, founder of Hope In a Box startup, which provides a box of LGBTQ books for 6-12 educators, libraries and schools in rural and city schools. Joe discusses the importance of LGBTQ characters and themes in books for grades 6-12 via class assignments and libraries. Hope in a Box helps rural educators ensure every LGBTQ student feels safe, welcome, and included at school. They donate “Hope in a Box” books with LGBTQ characters, detailed curricula for these materials, and coaching for educators on LGBTQ themes. They have worked with over 120 schools across the country and been featured in Forbes, Teen Vogue, Education Week, the Advocate, Times Union, and Metro Weekly. Joe was featured in Forbes 30 Under 30.
