Gewapend met de feiten en een zak rotte appels deden rebellen van XR Amsterdam op zaterdag 21 december 2019, super saturday, de laatste dag van het seizoen van de koopgekte, een boekje open in de Apple Store in Amsterdam.

Tijdens de actie lazen we de ‘zwarte bladzijde’ van Apple voor, gevuld met nare verborgen waarheden die achter het flitsende bedrijf schuilgaan. De actievoerders lazen in koor feiten op over belastingontwijking, het reparatie- en softwarebeleid, het vervuilende productie-proces en de armzalige omstandigheden van werknemers over de hele wereld, tegenover de massale winsten die Apple opstrijkt. Met deze actie vraagt Extinction Rebellion het bedrijf om te doen wat nodig is in deze tijd van klimaatcrisis en technologie-overconsumptie. We eisen transparantie en dat Apple zich aansluit bij een duurzame en rechtvaardige systeemverandering, door bijvoorbeeld winkelruimte te transformeren naar een openbare bibliotheek of repair-café.

Armed with the facts and a bag of rotten apples, XR Amsterdam rebels opened a book at the Apple Store in Amsterdam on Saturday, December 21, 2019, super saturday, the last day of the buying madness season.

During the action, we read Apple's 'black page', filled with nasty hidden truths behind the flashy company. The activists collectively read aloud facts about tax avoidance, repair and software policies, the polluting production process and the miserable conditions of workers around the world in the face of Apple's massive profits. With this action, Extinction Rebellion asks the company to do what is necessary in this time of climate crisis and technology overconsumption. We demand transparency and that Apple joins and ignites a sustainable and equitable system change, for example by transforming retail space into a public library or repair cafe.
