Kinection is an experimental motion capture film captured with Kinect Azure Depth Camera, a camera that tracks human motion through depth analysis and infrared point cloud capture. In the Movement Lab, we experiment with cutting edge technologies to research and push the possibilities of invention in order to create new applications for both science and art. Motion capture is generally used for motion analysis and data capture for various applications for engineering, to medical to augmented reality.
For the sound, the voice of student poet Joy Lee, exactly as she read it, is divided over two tracks, with the second track slightly out of sync to create a spatial depth. The voice as it is constructed expresses a distance in time, between future and past, similar to the atmosphere created by the technology. The third track has the music score, which serves to give a more traditional and familiar grounding to the piece.
