"KEYSTONE I, II, III, IV" are four media sculptures in the shape of angular stones. The sculptures developed memory about the most frequent words in Portugal and from these they wrote sentences that oscillate between reality and fiction. The project explores the idea of a semantic representation of society, confronting us with the most frequent collective thoughts and their autonomous reinterpretation by an artificial intelligence entity.

CONTEXT:
The sculptures were created for the exhibition Sonae Media Art Award 2019 exhibited at the National Museum of Contemporary Art of Chiado in Lisbon, between 28 November 2019 and 02 February 2020 having a site-specific and temporal character.During this period, the “Keystones” developed a collective memory with the 500 most frequent words in Portugal on historical, contextual and ephemeral subjects. Subjects such as the 2019 legislative elections, the Web Summit, Christmas, or public figures like the CEO Isabel dos Santos and the President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and wrote more than ninety-seven thousand sentences (97k) over the period of the exhibition. Some of these sentences were daily posted by the sculptures on the project's Twitter account.
