The Galapagos Islands are quite literally a living laboratory for studying how natural selection, mutation, and other mechanisms affect animal populations in the processes leading to adaptation and speciation.

Sixteen middle, high school, and recently graduated students from Living Science, a Christ-centered home school study center, went on this “science trip of a lifetime” to the Galapagos Islands. I was asked to capture the expedition focusing on the two main groups of animals living on the islands - birds, and reptiles.

The Living Science students discussed interesting facts they learned about the animals we encountered and Dr. Purdom, a research scientist, speaker, and writer for Answers in Genesis with a Ph.D. in molecular genetics, discussed how the animals have adapted and speciated on the islands.
