Instytut Technologii Materiałów Elektronicznych rozpoczął prace nad grafenem jeszcze przed 2009 rokiem, kiedy to przyznana została Nagroda Nobla za prace nad tym materiałem.
W ITME opracowano medoty otrzymywania dwóch postaci grafenu: płatkowego i foliowego. Instytut posiada światowy patent na osadzanie grafenu na węgliku krzemu.
Naukowcy stworzyli hallotron, czyli grafenowy czujnik pola magnetycznego.
Narodowe Centrum Badań i Rozowoju przyznało insytutowi prawie 1 milion złotych na rozwój tej technologii.

Founded in the early seventies of the twentieth century, the Institute of Electronic Materials Technology (ITME) with about 250 employees is a research, development and consultative institution offering a unique combination of scientific and technological capabilities.
The Institute of Electronic Materials Technology is recognized in the world for its comprehensive and interdisciplinary research in the field of broadly defined materials engineering, electronics, photonics, nanotechnology and next-generation materials. Over the years, ITME has retained a high rank in the Research Units Evaluation of the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education (category A). Its achievements place it among the best research and development institutions that successfully carry out innovative research in many fields related to new technologies.
