Abstract
People possess tools which can capture, record, and upload the world around them. Yet, the sense of the sublime we associate with that natural world has fallen. The main goal of this project was to reignite awe in the cosmos by allowing the viewer to drift alongside the astronaut.
The main inspiration for this project came from a science podcast that was discussing how in the future humanity would deplete the earth of its resources. To sustain our way of living we would need to potentially start mining asteroids to either send back to earth or to transport to our space colonies. While sketching different compositions based on this idea, I joked to my friends in the studio that there might be monsters from deep-sea lurking about in deep-space as well.
