Jay talks with Richard Reis, PhD. Dr. Reis is currently a part-time Research Liaison with the Nanoscale Prototyping Laboratory at Stanford University. He has had a long and extremely distinguished career at both Stanford University and other institutions and organizations. For 23 years he was also the founder and editor of the Tomorrow’s Professor eNewsletter, a bi-weekly electronic publication that was sent to over 65,000 subscribers throughout the world. Dr. Reis is here today to inform us about a fascinating mechanical engineering design course he taught for 18 years. The yearly project, the challenge was for students to build a Full Body Bicycle—a bicycle designed to allow the arms to propel the bike while providing both an upper and lower body workout. During the program, we’ll see and hear about these noteworthy efforts over the years and, in the process, come to better understand the process of innovation. We’ll also find out about Dr. Reis’s noteworthy contributions to higher education with the Tomorrow’s Professor eNewsletter.
