This project explores the notion of human connection in a time of isolation created by the Covid-19 pandemic. It examines the dichotomy between individuals in relation to their perceived risk tolerance during a pandemic, and considers the ideological gaps between disparate groups. By utilizing a collection of antiquated and current technology to create a connection point, the perception of public space is transformed into an environment that questions our connections to each other, while drawing attention to the unsettling feeling that this period in history reveals. The site-specific installation involved presenting a CRT TV amidst a pile of trash to give the perception of discarded belongings. The TV cast live streaming video and audio of myself within the confines of my home. Passersby were confronted with the experience of a man within a TV on the street speaking directly to them. For many, this experience was met with confusion and bewilderment. For others, there was excitement and intrigue. Some people would continue to walk by unsure of how to respond or who to respond to. Others would stop and engage in a conversation while taking pictures. The spectacle brought all ages together to experience a moment in time that was unsettling and new—a reflection of the experience Covid-19 has exposed.
