Premise: 15 year old Laura Garcia has become the worlds' most renowned expert in temporal physics. Her beloved parents have been with her every step of the way on her journey, but the credit is all hers. She is on the verge of the holy grail, time travel. With government funding a doorway in time is opened. Anxieties are high when the experiment goes wrong and a duplex door way forms to two different times and the doorway cannot be shut. The incident claims the lives of both her parents and others. After some time, exploratory science and military units are sent through to each time. Both parties return with different versions of Laura, one 37 and the other 64 years old, each with highly contrasted timelines. What more a rift in spacetime has appeared over the space around the earth and begins to adversely affect the world. 37 year old Laura describes a world ravaged by the rift where fighting has broken out. 64 year old Laura describes a world where they corrected the rift and built a nearly perfect world, but there was a heavy price. As brilliant as her fellow scientists and assistants are, Laura is still the expert and the pressure is on her to find an answer. The weight of the world is on her shoulders. This for me serves as a metaphor for, a point of conversation on how much pressure children today have on them, in school, at home. Not rather to say what ought to be, but rather say this is what it probably feels like to them. Most wish to pursue 64 year old Laura's path. Old Laura begin to beseech her to follow their timeline, while the other Laura pressure her what no to do. Laura still grieving from the loss of her parents and not knowing which path to follow is as torn in her heart as the rift in space. The answer lies in integrating all 3 timelines and forming a new whole, singular one.
It's a story concept that explores many parts of our existence. The right to play God with time. Family, the realization of just how much power we have with our free will vs having choices forced upon us. Questions like are we destined to fulfill one future or could there be others if we choose another path?
I am of the firm belief that Time is...
It's a concept I learned in an old book, The Physics of Time Asymmetry. We as finite beings see the past, a present and a future. Yet the past is still there in the scope of time, the future is there too. It already exists, and we are here in the now we know as the present....we are simply being in this present...we are. Time is. Any moment you exist Time simply "is" at that moment.
But does this mean you're choice is already made, predestined for you? Or that perhaps yes there are many timelines that could form, but that depending on our choices, based on our resources, our body, state of our mind, sphere of influence and circumstances, that ultimately one timeline will form out of these and end up dominating the future? I believe so. Always endowed with free will we forge the future we inherit. But since I believe Time is, the rift exists at all points in time.
I also believe we are not alone in this. Have you ever observed a pond many stones being thrown in to it. Let us consider the pond is spacetime. And the rocks thrown in are the choices we make, the dents in spacetime we make so to speak. You will observe that many ripple waves form. At points many of those waves will intersect. Yet they don't cancel each other out as most waves in science do not. When they intersect this is how we interact with another in spacetime and influence not only our outcomes but each other's as well collectively, forging a destiny much larger than ourselves. And then it also explores that even though we have this gift, to choose, that with Laura's experiment gone wrong, and all its consequences, that with all this power to choose, sometimes we are simply out of control. And that things will work out for the better in the end, though it may not seem or feel so at first.
The rift in spacetime is a metaphor for not only the rift in young Laura's heart which is scene above the funeral of her parents, but the rift in the heart of humanity. And for Laura, the other two Laura's, are two sides of her that have been spit, requiring integration again. As as they integrate the timelines, it requires all 3 Laura's enter together in to the doorway. I do want her to return, but even I haven't quite decided how yet. But the integration of the timelines, closes the rift and all technology exploring traveling in time is banned by the world. It doesn't end with a perfect world, but one that opens its eyes to see what could be and to try to work together more, even if it takes work, because ultimately we have to decide, as individuals and collectively as a world.
