MNEME is on the one hand an expression from Greek mythology, but on the other hand it is also a widely used term for remembering in psychology.
We would be nothing without our memory, which defines the meaning of the things and events around us. In the same way, our motor skills are also subject to memory, which forms further memories that are decisive for the formation of our personality.
The memory can be divided into different subsystems according to the duration of information storage. Information stored in memory is the result of conscious or unconscious learning processes.
Just as every individual is capable of remembering situationally and subjectively, this is also transferable to a collective memory performance in a group or society.
We can therefore not only remember individually but also feel and experience collective memories that shape us as a community.
In considering psychological phenomena and the function of memory as inspiration, I also pay attention to what we leave behind in a textile technological context in the fast fashion industry. It is not only a matter of design and form-finding by interpreting the characteristics of memories such as malleability, dissolution and superimpositions, but also of dealing with the potential residue and the ecological footprint left behind by human beings in the most versatile and sustainable way possible.
