In 'i can i i have', Aleks Stanek refers to the relationship between the ports and landscapes of Dover and Calais through an arrangement of lights, fluent in morse code, on the edges of cliffs on both sides of the English Channel. The conversation is stylised after the 'Bob and Alice' incident which saw AI entities make up their own language in which they conversed about value, ownership and exchange; it also alludes to a comic strip by Tom Gauld which explores how two rocks perceive the passing of time. The work builds on a proposed reality where discarded technology and electronics merge with AI and the so-called god particle understood to grant objects mass - or, speculatively, logic or sentience.
