For today's SwissWatchExpo winding event, teaching you how to wind certain watches within the category of automatics. This is the Cartier Roadster. This watch is no longer made and this is going to have a little bit of a bonus feature today because this watch has an extra feature that some people may not know about. This particular Cartier Roadster does not have a screw down crown, meaning you do not have to push this crown in and screw it down against the body to keep it watertight. It's water resistant. Just the way that it is. The crown is always set against the body of the watch and in order to wind this particular watch, you do not have to move this crown at all. You just turn it towards the 12 we're in a clockwise position. If you're looking at it from the side, it turns this way, so towards the 12th you're going to do that a good solid 50 times to get this watch wound up.
Now to set this watch and to set the date, it just is like every other watch in its category. Pull it out. One click in click, put your fingernail underneath the crown, pull it straight out, and sometimes it's a little bit difficult to manipulate. With my thin fingernails, it may be with yours as well. Pull it out, one click and then two clicks to get it to set the time. So we're going to always set the hour hand in the bottom hand at the dial, and then we're going to observe the 12 here and see if the date changes when we go by the 12 to find out if that's midnight and see if it changes. It did not. That means that was noon when we passed it. We're going to go ahead and go to the safety zone, set the hour hand in the sixth position. We're going to push this crown back in. Pull it out, just a little one click and then we'll set the date. You can see it's a little bit, you can see it. The bright lights are just a little bit bright in here today, so I'm going to go ahead and see if I can focus on this just a little bit more.
You can see that date changing now, pull it out one more click, set the time, or just going to say it's nine o'clock. Push that crown back in. As I said, you can wind it running your hand under it or you can wind it with both fingers and that is the Cartier Roadster. Now one other feature about the Cartier Roadster, you should be aware of these come with interchangeable straps and these little tabs right here in the bottom half of the watch in between the lugs. You simply just reach in and put your fingernail right behind that log. It's a little bit difficult to see in the photograph, but I'm going to reach in, see if we can make this a little bit more clear. Reach in and pull it back and that comes out. Then you would put your new bracelet or strap in there, sliding it in.
Now it can be a little bit finicky, but you just simply slide it in and always wiggle it, pull it back to make sure it's good and safety class. Then this tab here is against the body of the watch, and that's how you change out your straps on your Cartier Roadster and set the time and wind the watch. Now this applies to all watches, that wind have a crown that does not wind down and screw down against the body of the watch. I hope you understand how to align this watch. This is a beautiful piece. Cartier Roadster find it at SwissWatchExpo.com as well.
