The intention of Michael Haneke when he released ‘Funny Games’ in 1997 was to reflect on the violence in the mass media, including cinema. The limited theatrical release of the original film encouraged Haneke to film a remake ten years afterwards, this time in English and with actors well-known all around the world.
Even so, the original concept didn't change: movements, gestures, film structure, as well as the kind of shots used (shot-for-shot technique) were repeated.
Over the years, the message of ‘Funny Games’ earns even more relevance and the audience still feel uneasy with a story that arouses lots of questions and an intense reflection.

La intención de Michael Haneke al realizar ‘Funny Games’ en 1997 era hacer reflexionar al espectador sobre la violencia en los medios, incluyendo el cine. El estreno limitado en EE.UU. de la cinta original impulsó al director a realizar un remake en el año 2007, esta vez en habla inglesa y con la participación de actores mucho más conocidos. Lejos de cambiar su idea original e introducir nuevos elementos, la pureza del relato se mantiene intacta: movimientos y gestos, estructura, tipos de plano (técnica shot-for-shot)…
El remake resulta en un calco de la película original, la intención se vuelve incluso más relevante con el paso de los años y el espectador sigue siendo agitado por la fuerza del mensaje.
