This year marks the 55th anniversary of the appearance of "It.s Gonna Rain", the first composition in which Steve Reich, one of the fathers of minimalism, used the technique of phasing. Reich, accidentally "discovered" phasing trying to synchronise two magnetic tapes that, given the technology at that time, went out of sync, creating an effect that caught his attention. Later, Reich applied the technique to acoustic instruments in pieces such as Piano phase and Violin Phase.
