In E.L. Konigsburg’s beloved children’s book, Claudia, 12, and Jamie, 9, are fed up with their suburban connecticut lives and decide to run away… Not just from somewhere but to somewhere. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City seems just elegant enough for Claudia’s taste. With nothing more than their instrument cases filled with clean underwear, $24 dollars in change (Jamie’s gambling winnings) and a will to survive, Claudia’s elaborate planning skills and Jamie’s relentless penny pinching allow the two to squat in style. Stealing lunches with school groups, bathing in the fountain, dodging security guards and the occasional informational tour, they’ve got in down to a science. A museum acquisition from a mysterious donor and exclusive access to the Met’s exhibits inspire Claudia and Jamie to investigate what's bringing huge crowds to their new home. With the help of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler and her endless files, what starts as a defiant adventure becomes much bigger, possibly as big as Michelangelo himself.
