Dear LAC Family
Please watch Pastor Jeff's video as he shares his heart about today, September 11, as we remember and appreciate all of our first responders, past and present, as they fight fires, care for victims, and protect and serve our communities. Pastor Jeff also highlights two special events taking place this weekend - in addition to our Sunday services.
Tomorrow morning Adult Ministries will host a training time for all volunteers, lay leaders, and anyone else interested in learning more about how to be an effective servant. Join us on Zoom at 8:30 am for "The Gathering." Then in the evening join us for a time of prayer and worship in the West Parking Lot at 6 pm in the West Parking Lot.
Then on Sunday evening, as you are able, please join us for a special Farewell Celebration and Commissioning Service for Mayra Macedo-Nolan at 5:30 pm in the West Parking Lot. We will feature a short time of sharing, prayer, and praising God for the work Mayra has done at Lake and in the community. We will also be commissioning her as a church for her new role set before her in Pasadena and beyond.
All social-distancing protocols will be observed for both events. Please fill out our COVID-19 Symptom Survey prior to coming on-site for the events:

We hope you will be able to join us in worship online this Sunday at 9 and 11 am on YouTube, Facebook, and lakeave.org as Pastor Mathew P. John finishes our teaching series on "Truth and Wisdom" with a special message from Luke 16 you won't want to miss. Have a blessed and safe weekend!

A September 11 Prayer
(by Pastor Jeff Mattesich, September 11, 2011)
Gracious Father
We pause and reflect on the horror that happened 10 years ago today. Our hearts are heavy as we recall the pain, suffering, and death of so many of our fellow human beings. We sit in confusion of such deliberate and blatant evil. We are reminded of the far-reaching effects of sin – as many of us still feel the pain from what happened on September 11, 2001. Lord – as horrible and confusing as all of this was and is – we declare your sovereignty and we know that you are near and that you are close and that you are good. So God, we call on you today to be near the family members who lost a mom, a dad, a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister, a grandparent, an uncle, aunt, cousin on that tragic day… and ask God they experience your peace and comfort today. I pray for the children who have spent the last 10 years without their parent – that your goodness would be great in their lives. Hold them father today.
We pray for the friends and colleges of those who died in the attacks… that today as they recall – that they too will be comforted and sense and feel your presence in profound and real ways.
We find peace knowing that you are near and close to the broken-hearted.
God – in this moment and this space we thank you for the rich blessings in our lives. We are thankful for this country and that you have allowed us to live in freedom. We are thankful for the ways you protect us. We are thankful for the men and women who serve us today and for those who have served in the past – and we are in awe to those who have given their lives in service to our country.
God we ask you to guide us as a nation. We need you Lord. We ask that you be with President Obama, his administration, and the other elected leaders – that they will know you and your word and lead accordingly. We pray Lord for our Fire Fighters and Police Officers - and other Civil Servants – that you protect them as they protect us.
God we know that America is not the only country in this world and that you have created every human being on the planet in your image. Help us see the world the way you do. Help us see your people with your eyes. We ask that violence and death that happens daily all over this planet will cease and that senseless and purposeful death will be no more. We are reminded of the brokenness in our world today – and ask that you strengthen us, and your church to be agents of your peace and reconciliation to that brokenness.
Amen
