Tania Candiani began working at Hole in the Rock with a portable weather station that measure the temperature, wind speed, humidity, and atmospheric pressure of the geological formation, Candiani then translated that information (zeros and ones) into musical tones with Mexico City-based electronic musician Leslie Garcia. That translation of data took the shape of a group of sound tracks in preparation for a site specific sound performance in order to have “the rock sing to the Sonoran Desert animals”. Candiani returned to Hole in the Rock with an 8-minute electronic musical composition and performed live using custom technology that allowed her to listen to the rock as an input that gave back pulsating massage type tapping to the rock’s surface. The tapping created rhythms from the compiled data that Candiani used to remix the music composition.
