Rationalle:
My use of screen aesthetics throughout my moving image sequence revolves heavily around providing the viewer with some sort of hallucinating-like experience where they travel continuously through an infinite screen-space. This idea was mainly driven by my interest in the technique of masking that we learnt in our tutorials, where I began researching the ability to mask images in videos. This further led to me being able to experiment with masking the insides of doorways with different rooms to allow the viewer to feel a sense of teleportation through the video.
This idea is effectively able to relate to the theme of “mad racket”, as to me this term creates an intense situation of not knowing what is going on and having a form of perplexed experience. I have incorporated this into my moving image sequence through providing the viewer with an unpredictable experience where they feel lost as they travel through an endless state of transition.
The sequence that I created experiments largely with the use of continuity editing, as I have attempted to make the sequence feel as if it is one long take through using doorways as a transition throughout the differing scenes. This additionally links to my use of composition and setting throughout the video, as I have composed the various scenes of the video in a way that aims to provide the viewer with a seamless experience through utilising a consistent setting that revolves around the doorways within my house. Through this I have also experimented with the idea of an eyeline match. This is evident as an eyeline match aims to allow the composition to flow more easily, in which I have utilised the same concept through trying to keep the camera at the same height when transitioning through doorways in my video, hence progressing the sense of continuity editing within the video.
The use of lighting also aims to convey my use of continuity editing throughout the moving image sequence. This is evident as the sky that I masked into the doorway of my house was rather dark, cloudy and grey, which enables the sky to fit into the setting more than if it was a bright-blue sky contrasted upon the white walls of my house. The recurring motif of skies furthermore emphasises the idea of flowing seamlessly through different scenes, as a sky effectively encompasses the idea of freely moving within an open space.
This composition additionally utilises non-diegetic sound in order to further progress my composition’s narrative of being lost and travelling endlessly throughout perplexing transitions. This is seen due to my use of an eerie-like sound that I experimented with in audacity to provide it with a more sci-fi mood. This works well with my image sequence as it adds to the unknown aspects of the composition as the viewer feels and alien-like experience of teleportation.
