Some notes on failure

Virtuosity is expected. Falling is commonly related to failure. Success and perfectionism sometimes don’t allow us to make mistakes. Productivity, standards and capitalism have generated in the creative process, a race for surviving in the artistic milieu, the industry, the galeries/museums or the funding/scholarships. That is how it works.

Once, I heard someone saying that the idea of failure comes from the ego. From an intense desire “to be” in the world. To be successful anytime, anywhere.

...more curiosity, less ambition...

Failure and fall can be an impulse to move towards “new” ways of doing-thinking-feeling things. Trial and error, a sequence in the experience of creation. A moment to be human out of the society and culture of the spectacle. Out of hypervisibility.

Fall and failure as an event of self encounter with our practices. A reflection on what we know-how to do. A moment of intimacy. A time to laugh at ourselves.

Failure and recovery as a consequence of events. A movement following another one.

Those terms have their origin in history theory (a process in three times -and a half- of disintegration of a civilization, without foreign intervention in it). Also in dance technique and performance art practices.

Motion as a moment of passage between two points of equilibrium. A real movement between verticality and horizontality, a struggle against gravity.

After the falling there is a recovery.

Failure/fall and recovery as a process of healing.

The importance of making errors to solve problems.
