In 1961, the red Stratocaster guitar was bought new by Jim Skiathitis who, with his friend Peter Hood, formed the band 'The Atlan- tics' in Sydney, Australia. The Fender Stratocaster line was so popular they are described as "worldwide archetypes", played by various musicians from the 1950's onwards. I chose to focus on many models of the Stratocaster including where it came from and its use by musicians to display all 'moments in time'. The objective was to achieve the idea that although the artists and musi- cians come and go, the instrument lives on.
The following interactive exhibit aims to attract youth who may find museums boring, and are screen focused by involving them in interaction through visual, physical and auditory features. The "Heartbeat of the Stratocaster" exhibit is a room in which the model of Jim Skiathitis's electric guitar in a glass casing is in the centre. The top of the glass casing is a transparent touch screen, where the user can see the neck of the guitar, which acts as a timeline for users to alter. Once a year is chosen, a video 'scene' is pro- jected onto the four walls around them, immersing the user into the Stratocaster's moment in time.
This experience engages users of all ages to transport back in time and interact with developers, creators, brands and musicians. In doing so, users learn about the history of the famous Fender Stratocaster, further encouraging future learning and curiosity about the Fender Stratocaster line and the history of music.
