Ethan Yin wanted to reduce the search period for lost hikers so he developed the Hiker RFID Checkpoint System. The system involves having various electronic checkpoint systems along the track and hikers use an RFID tag to check in. If a hiker goes missing, emergency services can check the system for the hikers last known location and what time they checked in to narrow the search area.
