This is the story of Cheyenne and her foal Nakota. They were rescued from the wild as Cheyenne had a very damaged and infected leg. The other wild horses were attacking them, so the Salt River Wild Horse Management Group gave them refuge at their facility in Arizona, USA. It was our first trip to help this organisation and what a task! We had to gentle Cheyenne so that she could be x-rayed, this had to happen within the first day! Then to help treat her for the infection.

We only planned to be there for 1 week but decided to cancel our flight home to give an extra week. In this time we managed to help her heal from the infection but the tendon damage was still very fragile. After returning back to the UK we had some devastating news. There was a freak wind storm and Cheyenne had panicked and re torn her delicate tendons. it was a tragic loss.

This event triggered both Shelley and myself to return yearly to the SRWHMG to support little Nakota and the other horses at the facility. It was the best way that we could honour Cheyenne and her beautiful legacy. If you would like to see the full story it is on our James French YouTube channel.
