Airline pricing has traditionally been decided based on historical performance and calculated price sensitivities. The impact of COVID on the behavioral drivers of travellers has made traditional approaches obsolete, and airlines are exploring new methodologies to power this critical function. In this presentation I will discuss the practice of revenue management at a high level, and the potential for applying machine learning in dynamically adjusting the prices of flights and ancillaries.

This presentation will also discuss the importance of strategy, process, and people in what is often the first productionalized data science initiative for an airline. This is based on my upcoming book, Minding the Machines: Building and Leading Data Science Teams.
