Im a big fan of Visioncolor’s “Impulz” luts. Their visionspace and cineon conversions both provide great starting points for grading and can be easily molded to fit the chosen aesthetic of the colorist.
I have designed a collection of LUTs that focus solely on using tone curves to adjust the color and contrast of the image. This allows users to use these LUTs in combination with flat imagery like Visioncolor’s visionspace, Fujifilm eterna, FILMCONVERT, panasonic cinelike D etc. while preserving the original color science of the image.
Tone curves are underrated yet one of the most powerful tools when it comes to color grading. You can use tone curves to adjust how colors are rendered in the shadows,highlights and midtones of the image and has been my approach to creating film like imagery using LUTs. The upcoming suite of DIGILOG have characteristics like pink highlights often seen in over exposed film. Some of these LUTs in the collection also create cross processed styled looks that really make footage pop and can add further value to users of other film emulation products such as Visioncolor Impulz
