As individuals within our collective studio, we all have interests that take us to the out of doors. Hiking for some folks, canoeing and kayaking for others. We all feel a deep connection to the natural world and the animals that reside there, and through this interest, we were able to connect with Defenders of Wildlife and Cascadia Wild to make an animation about their community science program, piloted here in the Pacific Northwest. Not only did we create illustrations based on parks department posters from the early 20th century, as well as interview past and current participants of the program to piece together the narrative, but two of us also were volunteers in the program itself, allowing us to base our scenes and interactions on actual field work pictures and video footage.

Working on projects like this allows us the opportunity to both use our studio’s talents to create a unique animation that will be used in education, recruitment, and fundraising capacities, but allows us a chance to share some of the magic that we feel when we step into the forest.
