A juggler in New Zealand called Sugra taught Simon a ball-passing technique that could be used by non-jugglers; a quarter of a century later it became the starting point for The Outside Capering Crew’s ridiculously difficult-to-learn stick-throwing dance. This was its second performance. No Crew dance is fixed, and in 2019 the four- and five-stick throwing routines were changed after the first season to be made more difficult - and yes, more difficult. Pauses for children to bring in more sticks create a bit of theatre but also make the dance less challenging. It gets much of its character from the wonderful Cuckoo Waltz tune by Crew musician Lawrence Wright. Listen for the cuckoo at the end.
