Here's a look at the impact coronavirus concerns are having in schools and businesses across the country.

57 schools have been shut down temporarily and students are being taught online.

Amazon, Facebook, Google and Microsoft are all encouraging people in the Seattle area to work from home.

And airline companies like United and JetBlue are making cuts to prepare for the 113-billion dollars global airlines stand to lose if the coronavirus continues to spread.

Schools here in Georgia and across the country received letters similar to this one from the Department of Education.

The letter was handed out to parents informing them of the steps being taken to ensure the safety of their children and it stresses the importance of practicing simple hygiene like washing hands frequently and keeping a child at home if he or she is ill.

However at a Senate appropriations meeting in Washington, D.C. on Thursday education Secretary Betsy DeVos had to address another issue that has arisen in schools as a result of the coronavirus: bullying of students based on ethnicity or race.

The civil rights arm of the Department of Education sent a letter to educators urging them to pay careful attention to and address any harassment or unfair treatment of students who are perceived to be Chinese-American or of Asian descent.

Health experts say Wuhan, China is the epicenter of the coronavirus.

The letter said, in part, "some individuals may regrettably turn toward racial or ethnic stereotyping which exacerbates hatred and harms students. These incidents can create a climate of misunderstanding and fear. This hurts us all."
