In today’s episode Dana Gower and I talk about Careering, How to Find Meaningful Work in Today’s Economy, the book he co-authored with Venard Paul Dean. Dana is not only an author but business and financial strategist.
Dana also works at Career Pro and leads a Career Ministry in the Raleigh Durham area.
In his book Careering, Dana helps us understand that it's in our best interest to become a "Free Agent." This is a term used by You Inc and adopted in the terminology throughout his book.
Dana explains that today's average white collar worker is with a company for 4.6 years. It's frankly in our best interest to learn how to do 3 key things:
1. Self-branding
2. Life-long learning
3. Continuously build professional relationships and expand our network
During the interview I read a very personal story about his co-author, Paul Dean. Paul had been laid off, without a job and his young daughter planned to help him find another job. This story is a tear jerker that helps all of us understand what's truly important.
