Becky Tilton is a dedicated public servant and community volunteer. She has volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) for more than 55 years, where she was the first and only female Wing Commander in Mississippi. CAP is a congressionally chartered, federally supported non-profit that serves as the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force. Its key missions include emergency services such as air and ground search and rescue, disaster relief, aerospace education, and cadet programs.
Beyond Becky’s service with CAP, she is an active member at her church and the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary (SAWA). She is currently the chair of the Staff Relations Parish Committee responsible for the review of staff at St. Matthews United Methodist Church. At the Salvation Army, Becky has volunteered at events such as SOUPer Bowl (a fundraiser for local feeding programs), Back to School (a school supply giveaway and health fair), as well as various other community outreach events and programs.
The Salvation Army’s Labor of Love 5k/10k has been spear-headed by Becky and other SAWA
members for many years. In 2019, Becky spent almost 200 hours planning logistics, garnering volunteers and runners, obtaining sponsors and more, to provide funding for temporary housing, food, utility assistance, and more, to families in need.
She has also been an essential part of the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. Beginning in October each year, Becky helps each day (for two weeks straight) getting clients registered, then directs the Angel Tree Toy Shop where staff and volunteers sort through thousands of donations. In 2019, the Salvation Army was able to provide Christmas presents to over 2,400 children and senior citizens. This would not be possible without the help of the local community, but also Becky specifically.
Becky Tilton is a dedicated, loyal, generous, and hard-working public servant and volunteer. She is a tremendous gift to each organization to which she devotes her time and effort.
