This collection showcases the experiences and work created by students through the University of Oregon in the School of Journalism and Communication. In the class of Science and Memory, students are taught how to report science through multiple platforms and media. The program, now in its sixth year, offers classes taught at the University of Oregon, as well as in the field in Cordova, Alaska and the Copper River Delta. Students work with scientists and community members there to understand environmental complexity. Cordova is an isolated town (no road access, with the exception of aircraft or boat), where 76 percent of the people make their living directly or indirectly off of the commercial fishing industry. Balance becomes a force of life there.
