SALT goes out of the way to tap into indigenous knowledge and traditional practices to revive harmonious relationship between people, culture and natural world. Recently met with this organization. It's at the forefront of reestablishing bonds with the ancestral wisdom of African forefathers here in Tharaka. I was most impressed about one of its missions to save heirloom (non GMO) seeds that have thrived in this local region. Implicit in its mission is the deliberate effort to walk away from the toxicity of Babylon values and lifestyles. Lunch was great and so was the music and dancing. Of course, I had to "bust some moves" to the delight of other attendees. The tone of my welcoming noticably warmed when I announced my clan adoption ties, African ancestral background, and local land purchase/residence.

Society for Alternative Learning and Transformation (SALT) is a national non- governmental organization working with indigenous and local communities in three counties of Kenya, namely; Tharaka-Nithi, Embu (Mbeere) and Narok (Maasai). It works with individuals and communities around the issues of bio-cultural diversity. SALT works to inspire individuals and communities who are drawn to holistic strategies for creating and enhancing community and ecosystem resilience underpinned by holistic learning and transformatory experiences.
