Alive Stream is a swarm of fluorescent artifacts, which are hybrids of technology and nature. The luminous network floats across natural or artificial bodies of water, such as canals or rivers. The embedded sensors in the modular arrangement allow the installation to listen and to feel the forces underneath. The light patterns unveil the invisible currents and noise disturbances under the water, keep track of its memories and hint at its possible futures.
Alive Stream reflects on the role of rivers, water, and environmental data as key determinants of geological, economical, political and social morphing processes. The installation aims to stimulate a reflection about the ways humans relate to Nature and affect it. It is reminiscent of a post-Anthropocene scenario, where nature has regained its spaces blending with technology. Data recorded and the live data from the embedded sensors are integrated through visible light patterns which the visitors can experience and interact with. The boundaries between the digital world and the material ecosystems melt.
