Owner, manager, and founding director of Andrew's Sport and Entertainment Consultancy, Akil Samuels, speaks to the youth of the Caribbean on the opportunities in sports entertainment and more.
In this honest account, Mr. Samuels addresses the less fortunate Caribbean communities' inner thoughts and societal norms. Coming from Lavintille, Trinidad and Tobago, which is a depressed community of the country, Samuels struggles with those norms he calls "programming" even today. However, he tells the youth of the communities in the Caribbean that "understanding what you are about can make you go along a path that would see you do great things for your community and for your family."
Akil outlines three points of success for anyone raised in the Caribbean that is facing these unfortunate stereotypes.
Programming- Many youths today feel the way you are programmed as a child does not allow you to move beyond your circumstances. But that is a lie. We are not computers or robots. And even technology changes and improves over time. Use your programming as guidelines, not boundaries, to become a better and more successful individual.
Doubts -Doubts creep in like "can I be successful, am I helping people, and can I do this?" Don't let them hold you back from greatness. Reach for your purpose and turn from the negative programming.
Purpose- What have you been placed on this earth to do? With that, you have the objective of helping others. Several typical businesses lead to many other opportunities. Explore and keep to your purpose for success.
His message also touches on the importance of building your personal brand to be all you want to be known as. Samuel defines his brand and purpose in the following way.
"I want to give back to my community purposefully through financial literacy, social literacy, family literacy, offering jobs and opportunities."
