Though proponents of appropriate technology, we hired our neighbour Sr. Paulo to perform about 6 weeks of manual labour in just 2 days.
We now have a tractor path leading to our lower most terrace, said terrace has been cleared of shrubs (not a tree was harmed!) and is now firesafe and ready for planting in autumn!
We also took great care to take down and pulverise dead plant matter, to accelerate soil formation and minimise fire risk. Whereas living trees and shrubs have a water content of about 50%, dead plant material peaks around 20% even in the wet season: ideal for firewood! We'll be keeping snugly warm this winter. :)
Lastly, we are creating a parking place on our land. At the back of our place, out of sight and at a fair walking distance, where cars belong! Having the convenience of mobility, it is often hard to realise its true costs on our environment. Measures like this might increase our conscience, a bit.
