* What were your creative goals with this animation?:
Where my last project was really decadent and maximalist and indulgent, I really wanted to pare this work down. It actually took way longer than the last one did - I probably spent 2/3x as much time on this one, and frankly, I’m not sure I’m as happy with this one! I also tend to use humor as a way to deflect insecurities about more serious work and I think the vibe that I wanted for this video prevented me from doing that.
* Provide an overview of your creative process.
I really have enjoyed making notations directly onto my script. I also really relied heavily on the moodboard since I put pretty strong constraints on this project. I split up the audio into different scens, but there is a lot of overlap because I wanted to try and make transitions as smooth as possible. I used my iPad and the app Animation Desk to do the cel animation bit.
* What about this project are you most proud of?
I’m really proud of how much work I put into it. I also really liked doing the cel animation part - it was very time consuming, and I’m not an illustrator by any means, but I think it was a fun exercise.
* Reflect on what you learned in this process. What would you do differently next time?
Definitely not spend more time on it! It is humbling to see how far I have to go in terms of learning after effects, but even if I may not be completely happy with the final product, I’ve definitely learned a lot about my workflow. And picked up some shortcuts.
