This song was com-provised for the Berkley's Music for Wellness course. I had a clear intention in mind, and tried to express that feeling, not very simple to describe, so I started fooling around with an appropriate mode, a kind of rhythm, and ultimate a melody for the regular ostinato, that best describes the restlessness part of the feeling described. Once I had the ostinato, I turned every knob in my synthesiser to find an appropriate sound. It's hard to make simple stuff. after that, I tried vocalisations and melodies that could not only fit the mode, but the feeling. I repeated a lot, but I tried to avoid exact repetition. The form, although not regular in terms of 'n' number of measures versus another one can be described like this: Intro, 'A', 'B', 'A' section, and a short coda.
I used a microphone, two synthesisers, and a reverb effect. Although in the first experiments I used a loop unit with a guitar, I ended up using the looping sequencer with a delay effect to create a slightly more hectic movement, which I found more effective.
There's a very nice thing about this piece: If I play it again it would never be the same. Only a few elements were outlined, like the basic melodic contours, the ostinato, and the way that the second synthesiser (the tiny Moog in my left hand) would help making the climatic moments. The settings will vary every time, since there's no fixed programming, I know that I'm going to have a reverberation, but all of the parameters were in my fingers and changed every time; I'm using analog, non-programmable equipment, and I don't know when I'm going to sing out of tune, which is nice, since emotions and the way to convey them change all the time.
