With 1 million species at risk of extinction, the impacts of climate accelerating, and the pandemic still ravaging communities around the world, we find ourselves at an inflection point. How we will live and interact with nature is the defining challenge of our lifetime. At WCS, we know that nature-based solutions like protecting intact forests can provide nearly one-third of the climate action we need by 2030—and also preserve the life-giving resources that all species depend on to thrive.

On September 23, 2021, The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) hosted its annual Gala at the Central Park Zoo. The evening celebrates WCS’s impact on the planet’s most ecologically important wild places and the extraordinary species that call them home. We were thrilled to honor David Bonderman, co-founder and chairman of TPG, a leading global alternative asset firm. David Bonderman is a long-time supporter of conservation causes and protecting Africa’s parks and wildlife is a particular passion. He has long assisted Wildlife Conservation Society projects across Central and East Africa. His major support for predominantly anti-poaching and wildlife anti-trafficking efforts now extends across 22 African countries.

This short film provides an intimate look at our work, our impact, and how we can harness nature’s immense power to balance human needs with protecting and restoring our planet.
